Special Exhibit and Catalogue to be Presented

UFM is pleased to announce that in early February, 2007 it will be inaugurating the exhibit and presenting the catalogue Four Centuries of Geographic Expressions of the Central American Isthmus 1500-1900. This is the first exhibit and publication to use maps to focus on Guatemala within the context of Central America, from both the perspective of “outsiders” in Europe and indigenous and colonial “insiders.” Ninety-nine maps have been assembled, encompassing the various genres of maps of Central America. A special feature of the catalogue is the inclusion of biographies of the mapmakers and an extensive glossary, designed as resources for both the scholar and the newcomer to the fascinating world of cartography.
